Our Philosophy

Wisdom begins with wonder - by Socrates

To cherish the joy of families and the many different ways they come to us.

With Te Whaariki and Kei Tua o te Pae as guidelines, we recognise that each and every child is competent and capable, and we will adapt our pedagogy to support all learning. Theorists of human behaviour, Piaget, Vygotsky and Bronfennrenner, underpin our assessment and evaluation of children's learning.

VISIT TO MOTAT ON OUR LUNCHBOX DAY

Today we travelled by bus to MOTAT, along with our friends from the Kinross Street Centre, to see all kinds of transport. This was a special trip for our 4 year old children, and we call this outing "Lunch Box Day", because the children had to carry their own lunches and be responsible for eating properly, getting ready for school. At first we looked all around the main section of MOTAT and then we travelled to the Hanger section on Meola Road, where we ate our lunch. This was a fantastic trip and although it was overcast, the weather couldn't have been better. We eventually walked back down to Great North Road to catch the bus home. What a wonderful day we had, the children were great and we were pleasantly surprised at how fast the day went. Check out the photo display in the Centre to get more of an idea on what we covered.

Mothers Day Evening

Last night the atmosphere was enchanting as the mothers walked into a candlelit room with the children's loving work around them, including balloons, streamers, hearts and sprinkles. The mothers were greeted with a glass of bubbly or fruit juice on arrival, and desserts were waiting, that were divine and delightful to test their taste buds.
Angela, one of our mothers, who is a Creative Memories Consultant, delighted the mothers by showing us her photo albums and how to store and look after them. The mothers were able to create a memorable gift from photo's they brought in to take home. Angela inspired us by showing us that we all have creative abilities.
The mothers had an enjoyable and delightful time creating their page, talking to each other and having fun. The mothers were so inspired by how the centre could be changed! A wonderful evening had by all!

Our Fabulous Carpentry Teacher

As you may already know, Gerald LeMesurier, (Ollie's) Dad built us this amazing Carpentry Hut. Not only that, he has been teaching us how to use the tools appropriately and given us projects to work on.
The first project was to make fishing lines using soup tins - very inspired.
Currently we are cutting up timber to build small boxes that we can fill with clay. Once this is completed we make impressions in the clay, e.g. hand prints, nuts and bolts, etc., AND then we fill the impressions up with Plaster of Paris - watch out for amazing creations coming your way!
