Our Philosophy

Wisdom begins with wonder - by Socrates

To cherish the joy of families and the many different ways they come to us.

With Te Whaariki and Kei Tua o te Pae as guidelines, we recognise that each and every child is competent and capable, and we will adapt our pedagogy to support all learning. Theorists of human behaviour, Piaget, Vygotsky and Bronfennrenner, underpin our assessment and evaluation of children's learning.

Starfish Magic - 4th March, 2011

Arif and Karen, Jonah's Mum and Dad performed a performance about Exercise, Hygiene, Food, and Brushing teeth. Children sang along and joined in with the dancing and actions to the songs they sang. They answered questions from Karen and at the end of the show the children were singing the song '5 fruit and vegies a day' song. Children learnt how to look after themselves through healthy eating and exercising. Thank you Starfish Magic, it was a great show! Ka pai!

The Gingerbread Man

The Gingerbread Man Recipe

Half a cup of brown sugar, one cup of butter (or margarine), half a cup of honey, one egg, a pinch of salt, two and a half cups of flour, four teaspoons of ground ginger, one teaspoon of cinnamon, half a teaspoon of baking soda

Mix the sugar and the butter in a bowl. Then beat in the honey and the egg. Mix the rest of the ingredients. Slowly add them to the butter mixture to make a dough. Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface. Cut out your gingerbread people. Place your gingerbread people on a greased baking sheet. Add some decorations if you wish. Bake for 10 - 12 minutes at 160 degrees C. or 325 degrees F. Let your gingerbread people cool and finish decorating them! Now eat them!

The children enjoyed the story and making the gingerbread men!

Have a look at our wall display in the main room!

Celebrating World Children's Day

Today, we are celebrating World Children's Day(which is Saturday 21st November, 2009) by having a Fancy Dress Party! On Wednesday we made Crunchie Ice Cream. On Thursday we went for a walk and got Strawberries to go with the ice cream. What a fantastic day we are having. The children have made fairy wands, played with balloons and bubbles, and watched a Movie, Over the Hedge, while having dessert. It was very yummy... This afternoon the children are enjoying dancing to their favourite music outside on the deck! What a great day our tamariki are having! Ka Pai everyone!

Our Sky Tower Trip

On the 1st September we went to the Sky Tower, as the children were interested in heights. They were always trying to jump high and kick balls high, as well as creating tall buildings with the blocks. So as a team we decided on a trip to the Sky Tower for the children to experience a tall structure and being up high themselves, as well as looking down at other tall buildings etc.

It was an awesome experience! Here is our Photo Story of our trip:

Fire Engine Visit

Yesterday, we had Titrangi Fire Service visit us at our Centre, as the children have been acting out at being firemen after enjoying the Fire Truck Story and Song book. Fireman Jim and his crew -Fireman John, Fireman Barry and new bloke on the job Fireman Andrew enjoyed the song immensely. They showed us how to put the Fire suit on and then told us how to escape out of a burning House! The children even got to shoot that water...! We had a great morning with the Fire Service Crew! Thanks again guys! See you soon when the centre gets our new fire engine for the children!
