Our Philosophy
Wisdom begins with wonder - by Socrates
To cherish the joy of families and the many different ways they come to us.
With Te Whaariki and Kei Tua o te Pae as guidelines, we recognise that each and every child is competent and capable, and we will adapt our pedagogy to support all learning. Theorists of human behaviour, Piaget, Vygotsky and Bronfennrenner, underpin our assessment and evaluation of children's learning.

Our Trip to Butterfly Creek
On Friday 21st March our ‘Transition to School’ children were invited by the Kinross Street Centre to join them for a day at Butterfly Creek. We did this as a lunch box day, where the children take full responsibility for their own belongings, including contents of lunch boxes and drink bottles.
When we had arrived at Butterfly Creek we sat down and ate morning tea. After morning tea we boarded the train and during our train ride we saw dinosaurs, like the Tyrannosaurus Rex, Triceratops and Diplopods. The roar of the dinosaurs captured the children’s imagination.
Once the train ride was finished, we headed to Dinosaur Kingdom. Dinosaur Kingdom is home to over 30 full size model dinosaurs some of which move and roar!
Next stop, the aquarium. The children enjoyed watching ‘Nemo’ and ‘Dory’ swimming in the water, as well as the pirate ship at the entrance.
We ventured out of the aquarium and on our way to see the butterflies. The children laughed as the butterflies would fly along and then sit on there fingers, bracelets, and the tops of their hats and bag. Inside the butterfly enclosure there was also three other enclosures with Cotton-top Tamarind monkeys, which captured the children’s attention as they raced up and down branches chasing each other.
Last stop for the day was to Buttermilk Farm where the farmer let the children pat gently a baby chicken and rabbit. Mila the farm dog loved all the pats she received and Charlie the Silver Crested Cockatoo kept calling out ‘hello!’ Outside there was a pig, some alpaca and sheep, as well as freely roaming chickens. Also very popular was the old tractor, which every child had a turn to climb on; taking imaginary drives around the farm.
There was more we’d have loved to see and do but we ran out of time and needed to head back on the bus to Learning Curves. What a great day for both the children and the teachers!
Check out our awesome Butterfly Creek display wall. This was created prior to and after this trip by the 'Transition to School' Group!
