Our Philosophy

Wisdom begins with wonder - by Socrates

To cherish the joy of families and the many different ways they come to us.

With Te Whaariki and Kei Tua o te Pae as guidelines, we recognise that each and every child is competent and capable, and we will adapt our pedagogy to support all learning. Theorists of human behaviour, Piaget, Vygotsky and Bronfennrenner, underpin our assessment and evaluation of children's learning.

Hit the play button above to join us on our Lantern Festival trip. A double decker bus came to pick us up. Cameron thought it was the "Thomas bus" while another friend said it was the "Sky Tower bus." We sat on the top deck and the bus driver drove over to pick up our friends from Kinross Street.

There was a bit of excitement when the bus driver parked as the tree branch went through the bus window, not the glass bit and so we were all ok. We went on the motorway into town and parked just beside Albert Park. Just a short stroll down the road and we were there.

Some of our favourite things about this trip were,

"The sheep, cows and the chickens" said Master J.

"I like town..." advised Branson, "...just going there and going on the double decker bus."

"Climbing!" Said Carolina.

Hope you enjoyed the Lantern Festival as much as we did. Come back again soon as there will be more photos of some other things that we got up to while at the park. Thank you again to the parents and grandparents that joined us. We truly appreciate it.

The Cicada Hunter

This is Reece and he is our very own cicada hunter. He can tell us so many interesting things about them, show us where to find them and even get them for us if we want one to hold for a little while. He also knows that they should be free once we have finished looking at them.
I know that Reece has had lots of practice catching cicadas and other bugs because his dad told me that he hunts for them at home with his brother and sometimes mum and dad too.
Have a look at the video for some useful cicada information from our expert cicada hunter:

Thank you Reece, you are the best cicada hunter indeed!

Meet our new friend the stick insect

Look what was found on Jo-Anne's car earlier this week. Darryn brought it into the centre to show all his friends. The children made a home for it in a bug catcher. With the long weekend coming up we thought we'd better let it go. Some children followed Maree outside and told her she should let it go in the secret garden. When Maree put the stick insect onto a tree branch something amazing happened right before the children's eyes - the stick insect started to change colour. It's body started changing from brown to green as it took on the colour of the leaves. The stick insect was camouflaging itself to protect itself from predators.
