Our Philosophy

Wisdom begins with wonder - by Socrates

To cherish the joy of families and the many different ways they come to us.

With Te Whaariki and Kei Tua o te Pae as guidelines, we recognise that each and every child is competent and capable, and we will adapt our pedagogy to support all learning. Theorists of human behaviour, Piaget, Vygotsky and Bronfennrenner, underpin our assessment and evaluation of children's learning.

Starfish Magic - 4th March, 2011

Arif and Karen, Jonah's Mum and Dad performed a performance about Exercise, Hygiene, Food, and Brushing teeth. Children sang along and joined in with the dancing and actions to the songs they sang. They answered questions from Karen and at the end of the show the children were singing the song '5 fruit and vegies a day' song. Children learnt how to look after themselves through healthy eating and exercising. Thank you Starfish Magic, it was a great show! Ka pai!

The Wonderful World of Skype

Mandy's Auntie Kay Skyped us quite by accident one day but what a fabulous opportunity for us to connect with another part of our wider world.

Thank you, Auntie Kay, we look forward to chatting with you again another day.

Skype is a free download and we would love to chat with others from New Zealand and around the world, especially family, local schools, friends of the children and other early learning centres. Add a comment or send us a message if you are keen.

Information and Communication Technology (ICT) - News Time

The thoughtful and meaningful use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in early childhood education services can support children "to grow up as competent and confident learners and communicators, healthy in mind, body, and spirit, secure in their sense of belonging and in the knowledge that they make a valued contribution to society".

Ann received an email from Alex's mum with photos of his trip to Sheep World and we printed them off for him to share his story at News Time. Alex helped Mandy to laminate them.

Later, during News Time, Mandy recorded Alex's news while Ann asked questions. Alex and friends were exposed to so many different areas of technology throughout this experience. Here is Alex's news time:
